features worked as designed, but you will grow irritated waiting for the thing to pop up...everytime you use it.
details: on (this hamilton beach toaster with tongs), the heating coils on are shielded by a transparent sheet (safety feature) thereby putting a barrier between the heat and the bread, making a very SLOOOOOOOW toaster, which was so severe, each of us noticed on first use and it became intolerable within 2 days. showstopper for a simple, daily use device.
recommendation: cant recommend any new toaster at this time. we pulled out my old betty crocker toaster and will continue to use it. in retrospect, the betty crocker is far superior to 3 new toasters we tried and returned over the last week.
the other 2 toasters we tried in the last week:
(cuisinart cpt-120): a complete showstopper failure that, at the lowest setting, burned everthing put in it
(kenmore elite 2 slice): right slot failed to toast one side of bread and overcooked the front 20% of the other side of bread.
i guess its hard to make a decent toaster, and betty crocker got it right.
